The common 'Schengen' visa is for short stays (tourism, visit or business purpose, medical treatment) within the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia are entitled to travel to the ‘Schengen’ area visa free for a period of up to 90 days within 180 days. Under usual circumstances, they are not required to apply for a 'Schengen' visa.
A 'Schengen' visa can only be applied for by residents of North Macedonia/ those who are otherwise permanently living in North Macedonia and DO NOT have citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia and who are permanently living in North Macedonia.
Please note: This leaflet only applies, if you do not have citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia and if you live permanently in North Macedonia.
The following documents are required to process your application, all documents have to be provided in English or German language (if necessary translated):
- application form, security questionnaire and additional information on availability and representation filled in and signed by the applicant himself / herself,
- 1 biometric passport photo (not older than 6 months, no self-made prints),
- passport valid until at least six months after your intended travel date. It must not be older than 10 years and there must be at least two blank pages,
- 1 copy of the data page of your passport,
- medical certificate stating your illness and the necessary treatment,
- letter of confirmation by the German hospital stating how long the patient will be treated and that all the costs for the treatment are covered,
- original invitation/formal obligation by your host in Germany according to §§ 66 the German Residence Act confirmed by the local German Aliens Authority (Verpflichtungserklärung„) or: other proof that you can provide sufficient funds for your stay (f.ex. bank statements, pay slips etc.),
- residence permit for the Republic of North Macedonia, original and 1 copy,
- travel health insurance with a coverage of at least 30.000 Euros valid in all Schengen countries, original and 1 copy.
If your family lives in the Republic of North Macedonia:
- proof of relation (e. g. birth certificates, marriage certificates etc.), original and 1 copy each,
If you work in the Republic of North Macedonia:
- your last three pay slips, original and 1 copy each,
- proof of employment issued by the authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia (“M1/M2 form„), original and 1 copy.
If you are self-employed workers / freelance workers in the Republic of North Macedonia:
- entry in the Central Registry of the Republic of North Macedonia, original and 1 copy,
- proof that your company paid taxes, original and 1 copy.
If you study in the Republic of North Macedonia:
- leave letter from the University.
The application fee is 90 €/ 45 € for children between 6 and 12/ children from 0-6 do not pay a fee. If you are a spouse of an EU citizen, your application will be processed free of charge.
Important notice: All other services provided by the Embassy to process your application and the application form are free of charge.
Please note: Handing in all of the above-mentioned documents does not necessarily mean, that a visa will be granted. The issuance of the required visa is subject to further decision and the requested visa may be refused even if accompanied by a complete set of documents as indicated above. All documents have to be provided in English or German language (if necessary translated). Please provide all requested copies (it is not allowed for members of the visa section to make any copies for you). If necessary, the visa section has the right to ask for additional documentation during the process of your application.
